Year 9 BBL Contextual challenge task

 

BBL Tasks -  How can products be used to improve the experience of visitors at a local landmark?

For example, in History, you learned about the Peterborough Cathedral, you could research this.

Or, you learned about the Magna Carta in Lincoln.

You could also click on this link to look at some local landmarks in Bourne.

Term 1

  • Investigate a local landmark you are interested in. Then document your findings, include:
    • Images of the landmark
    • The history of the landmark
    • The reason you chose the landmark
  • Once you have completed this research, upload your work to the term 1 task on bournetolearn.com

Term 2

  • Based on your research into the local landmark from term 1. Make a list of at least 10 possible opportunities/products you could use to improve peoples experience of visiting a local landmark. Below are some examples/ideas:
    • Pop-up book
    • Soft toy
    • Tour guide/map
    • Themed mug
    • Themed pen
  • Now choose 3 that you think are the best options and discuss how they would improve the experience.
  • Then decide which one of the 3 would be best and justify (give a reason) your choice.
  • Once you have completed this research, upload your work to the term 2 task on bournetolearn.com

Term 3

  • The box project is made from Acrylic (sometimes referred to as Perspex, which is a brand name).
  • This is a non-renewable product derived from the petroleum or coal-based chemicals and synthesized to for acrylic resin pellets.
  • There are many other materials that could be used to make the project.
  • As acrylic is not a renewable resource, do some research into three different renewable/recyclable materials that we could be use to replace the housing for the door buzzer.
  • Write down three advantages and three disadvantages of using these materials.
  • Include pictures of the materials.
  • Upload an image of your work to BBL task 3 on bournetolearn.com.
